Jamboree-on-the-Air

Jamboree on the Air (JOTA) is an annual Scouting event that uses amateur radio to link Scouts around the world, around the nation, and in our own community. This worldwide jamboree requires you to travel locally only as far as Camp Carpenter, in order to travel the airwaves worldwide. Scouting Heritage Merit Badge
Several volunteer members of our Museum staff are registered counselors for the Scouting Heritage Merit Badge. Individuals or groups are welcome to schedule a visit specifically to work on this advancement activity. Just by walking through the door (and reading a few exhibits), Scouts can fulfill requirements 1, 2a, 2b, 3, 4c, and part of 8. Within the Scouting Museum exhibits are the answers to all the questions on both a Cub Scout-level and Boy Scout-level Scavenger Hunt. Scouts are encouraged to work with a buddy, or in teams to find them (even adults can help). Each Spring (April 26-28, 2019), it's the Scoutmasters' Council invitational Camporee at the United State Military Academy at West Point, New York. This invitational event is one of the largest annual Scout encampments in the country. The Scouting Museum has a long history of exhibiting our "Road Show" collection at this event.
